The boats of the Plaza de España in Seville

Nieves, your tour guide for Seville, Cádiz and Córdoba will accompany you on such an outstanding tour explaining all the details of this famous monument, its main historical features and more than a nice anecdote. You can book a visit only to this place or include it in any of the guided tours that Nieves, your guide offers you.

The Plaza de España is one of the most visited monuments in Seville, and one of the most impressive. It will not leave you indifferent!. Its grandiosity, its color and its surroundings made it deserving the title of second “most impressive square in the world” by TripAdvisor Travelers Choise in 2018. Pavilion of Spain in the Hispano-American Exposition of 1929, the square offers a representation in tiles of each of the 50 provinces of the country in its benches, and extends in a welcoming embrace of Spain to its colonies.

The architect Aníbal González, whose statue stands in front of the square, was able to represent in it the most singular of our architecture: the Mudejar style, symbiosis of our Muslim and Christian past. The use of bricks, ceramics and water gives the plaza a colorful and unparalleled beauty. Thanks to this exhibition, the Sevillian ceramics of Triana lived its last period of splendor, covering the walls, staircases, bridges and benches of the square with the good centenary quality products of its workshops.

Its environment is the park with more tradition of Seville: the Maria Luisa Park, ceded to the city in 1914 by the Infanta Mª Luisa Fernanda de Borbón.

It was designed by the French landscape designer Forestier, who managed to integrate plant elements and water in gardens of local tradition. Its surrounding greenery and freshness make it a pleasant refuge when temperatures rise up.

Many films have chosen this place as fictitious scenes, the most important being the Oscar-winning “Lawrence of Arabia”, where the headquarters of the English troops in Cairo are located; and another more recent, the seventh episode of the saga “Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. II“, in which the Plaza de España became Naboo, one of the planets in the universe of Obi-Wan Kenob. The scene hardly lasts a few seconds, but it was a whim of George Lucas himself to include it among the locations, because the square had left his mark on a previous visit. As we said, the square does not leave indifferent!
